Event Planning
I love bringing people together -- to think, learn, create, and play together. I think planning an event provides an opportunity to raise awareness, educate, and inspire as well as an opportunity to bring joy and a sense of belonging to your community.
At Macys.com, I helped found and lead the Go Green ERG (Employee Resource Group). I planned our kick-off event which was mainly aimed at raising awareness -- of our group (since we were brand new and this was our first event) and of better waste and sustainability practices that could be employed in the workplace.
We invited many local organizations, like Recology, the SF Bike Coalition, and the SF Department of the Environment, to come to our office and participate in an activities and awareness “Go Green Fair.” Our team and these outside groups set up stalls for people to visit and play a quick interactive and informative game that could win them currency for raffle tickets. We raffled off prizes like an Amazon Echo and a SimpleHuman no-touch trashcan. For (sustainability-minded) decoration, we used a big projector to project green nature scenes on the wall. The event was a success and a great kick-off for the group!

I also like to plan events, both at work and outside of work, to bring people together to play and have fun. At work, I think having fun with your team helps create a sense of belonging which then is a strong motivator for working well together. As a Product Manager, I planned many get-togethers for my team, from team lunches in the office to Go-Kart racing.
I love planning events outside of work for similar reasons. I love to play and love building community and camaraderie and seeing others play and get creative. I'm lucky to have friends who are game for anything and will go all-out for a themed costume party, and I take full advantage of having them as playmates.
